Today in Comics History, March 15: This fellow's wise enough to play the fool

'Tis the Ides of March! And if we could go outside and celebrate, that might mean something. But one hero who's in the Caesar-stabbin' mood is that Mercutio with a Mouth, Deadpool! He covers all the classical holidays!

from Deadpool (2016 series) #21 (Marvel, December 2016), script by Ian Doescher, pencils and inks by Bruno Oliveira, colors by Nick Filardi, letters by Joe Sabino

So what does Deadpool do on the fifteenth?

Well, at least he has his priorities straight.

Mind you, I am packed full of anti-depressants.

Panels from Fred Hembeck Destroys the Marvel Universe #1 one-shot (July 1989), script and pencils by Fred Hembeck, inks by Vince Colletta, colors by Steve Mellor, letters by Janice Chiang

Inks by Vince Colletta? You don't say.

Today in Comics History, March 14, 1984: I still happen to have Marshall McLuhan right here

On February 12, you saw Rick Veitch pull Marshall McLuhan from behind a movie theater standee to declare "Everything you know is wrong!" in the original 1985 publication of The One #1 (as opposed to the publication of The Two #2).

But, my point...and I do have one...is that when The One was reprinted by IDW in 2018, it served up a more-or-less-completely re-written version of the original text piece, and for some reason, changes the date on which the piece it was (in-universe) published!

from The One #1 (IDW reprint, February 2018), script by Rick Veitch

Why was it re-written and re-dated? EWell, here's the stone cold atomic truth for you: I don't know! Rick Veitch, if you're out there, let us know!

Page from The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl (March 2015 first series) #2 (April 2015), script by Ryan North, pencils and inks by Erica Henderson, colors by Rico Renzi, letters by Clayton Cowles

What's that? You say can't spot a Power and Responsibility reference? Ah, but remember that in a Squirrel Girl comic, you must always check the footnotes!

I think what I'm saying here is, each Squirrel Girl comic should come with its own magnifying glass.

...Bruce is telling Booster to take him back to the night of his parents' murder. Since when did that become March 7? It has always been June 26 until this story, and I refuse to change my mind and calendar on that unassailable fact!

The always-essential Grand Comics Database has perhaps the single greatest synopsis of a Spider-Man story for this one: "Pete ditches a chance to hang out with the cool kids at school to visit Uncle Ben's grave with Aunt May." Oh, geez, Petey, never stop bein' you, ya crazy nut.
