Today in Comics History, June 22: Superman's home is also Archie Bunker's Place

The Super DC Calendar 1976 tells us that tomorrow, June 23, is

from Super DC Calendar 1976 (DC, 1975), letters by Ben Oda

If tomorrow is when Superman first meets and fights Terra-Man, the enemy that will strike terra into everyone, then today is the day when the set-up for that story begins. So, on June 22, a cowboy stagecoach of the Olllllllllld West stampedes through downtown Metropolis. It's almost a bizarre sight as that one guy wearing a green suit! Where do you even get a green suit?

from "The Challenge of Terra-Man" in Superman (1939 series) #249 (DC, March 1972), script by Cary Bates, pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Murphy Anderson

Kal-El is issued a dire warning: Terra-Man is coming. It's not quite as exciting as when DC announced "Kirby is Coming!" but I'd rate it a couple degrees higher on the startling sxcale than "Bendis is Coming!" Superman will meet the terrible Terra-PinMan tomorrow, that is, June 23! And then he will die. Mind you, it's not something that Superman has never heard before.

Today, June 22, is also the day that Archie and Edith Bunker appeared in the DC Universe. Stay tuned to this Superman Channel for Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, and Carol Burnett!

Naw, I'm just kiddin'. But tune in tomorrow to see Superman battle Super-Cowboy in a story I like to call Super-Fight at the Metropolis Corral!
