Today in Comics History, October 5: Happy birthday, Chester A. Arthur!

Born on this day in 1829: America's 21st president, Chester A. Arthur! (The "A" stands for "And my last name is Arthur.")

Here's everything that ever happened to him, in one easy-to-digest page:

from Life Stories of American Presidents one-shot (Dell, November 1957), pencils and inks by John Buscema, letters by Ben Oda

He also took part in a rip-roarin' Two-Gun Kid adventure, even though he didn't get ride a bronco to shoot Iron Mask in the face.

from Two-Gun Kid: Sunset Riders #2 (Marvel, December 1995), script by Fabian Nicieza, pencils by Christian Gorney and Alex Maleev, inks by Michael Halblieb, colors by Michael Kraiger and Shannon Blanchard, color separations by Malibu, letters by Richard Starkings

Following his death, Chester A. was pressed flat and turned into a stamp by Colonel Gumm.

Yes, I'm gonna keep using that joke as many times as I can find these pages.

And then he came back to life as a zombie and fought Deadpool. Which, you gotta admit, is really all we want from a President, right?

from Deadpool (2013 series) #4 (March 2013), script by Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, pencils and inks by Tony Moore, colors by Val Staples, letters by Joe Sabino

Happy birthday, Chet! In my book your "A" stands for "awesome!"
