Today in Comics History, April 15: The following blog post may be unsuitable for those of a nervous nature or little bulls

from "The Hands of Don José" in Adventures into Darkness #9 (Pines, April 1953), pencils by Alex Toth, inks by Mike Peppe

Let's take a dip into the Bully's Viewer Mail Bag and pull out a letter, shall we? But first...Henry Mancini's beautiful Viewer Mail Theme!

Here's a real, actual letter. If it weren't, could I do this? (flaps letter around in the air with my hoof)

(Don't worry, we'll be getting to the April 15 bit in a moment).

Why no, I hadn't read that story yet, Michael! Not that this panel makes me feel good about doing so!

Well, that's one bull down (Uncle Mateo! No!) and we learn that despite what he did with the soft, fluffy ears, Señorita Isabella loves Don José very very much. BUT: his rival for her heart is the wicked General Martinez!

So naturally, General Martinez...cuts José's hands off? And mails them to Isabella?!? What the heck, comic book?!?

Oh hey, here's April 15, right here in this panel! Today in Comics History, everyone! #TodayInComicsHistory, won't you?

Hello? I'd like to order one ironic twist ending to a story, please? With extra blood? Can you have it here in two pages or less?

The moral to the story is...ehhhh, I got nuthin'.

"WHOLESOME"!

Play us off, Viewer Mail Theme by the world's only flutest flautist? flaut player, James Galway!
