Today in Comics History, November 23: Happy birthday, Carl Gafford!

#BoTD: comics writer, editor and colorist Carl Gafford (Legion of Super-Heroes, Justice League of America, All-Star Squadron, Suicide Squad, World's finest Comics, What If...?, Savage She-Hulk, Micronautsand more)!

Carl is on this photo cover! I believe he's the guy in blue (not Supes)...?

Also, can you find him in this big-ass roster line-up of the Legion?

from Legion of Super-Heroes #300 (DC, June 1983), co-plot and script by Paul Levitz, co-plot and pencils by Keith Giffen, inks by Larry Mahlstedt, colors by Carl Gafford, letters by John Costanza
(Click picture to wow that team is really huge-size)

I think he's this guy:

Happy birthday, Carl! This one I can be sure is you!

During the few years that I was a member of CAPA-Alpha, comics’ oldest and greatest amateur press association, I drew the cover to a “swimsuit issue” and Gaff hand-colored every copy that went out to members — a very cool experience given how many comics in my life had his name in the credits. #TheMoreYouKnow

Every copy of the cover, I hasten to clarify. He was crazy but not that crazy.

Yep… I wanna say there were fifty or sixty but I’m not sure what his policy was for issues that went out to those on the waitlist.
