Today in Comics History, January 12: Burning the ground, I break from the crowd / I'm on the hunt, I'm after you

Happy birthday to the hairest dawg of the 30th and/or 31st century, that lupine luminary of the Legion: Brin Londo, Timber Wolf!

from Super DC Calendar 1976 (DC, 1975), letters by Ben Oda

Each of us has within them three wolfs, which is nothin' compared to Timber "I've got lots of wolves in me" Wolf. F'r instance, when he premiered, he looked like this (and was called "Lone Wolf")!

from "The Lone Wolf Legionnaire!" in Adventure Comics #327 (DC, December 1964), script by Edmond Hamilton, pencils and inks by John Forte, letters by Milt Snapinn

Later on, just as the Legionnaires were thinking about unceremoniously dumping Superboy out of his own title, what with him throwing his beer cans around the clubhouse and just generally stinkin' up the place, Timber Wolf, or at least his hairstyle, had become more bestial in nature:

Then, after the Crisis...and I think we see where I'm going with this...he looked like this:

Right: Who's Who in the Legion of Super-Heroes #6 (DC, October 1988); pencils and inks by Mike Zeck, colors by Carl Gafford

Me, I really liked him when he was a Squishmallow!

Brin got a new look and a new miniseries at teh same, which goes to prove, as always: The New DC: There's No Stopping Us Now!

Let's get...ANIMATED!

Fourteen reboots and a Bendis or two later, our birthday beast is lookin' pretty much th way he started out: with a five-o'clock shadow and ready to rumble.
