I think it's the exclamation point that really makes the footnote.

Besides, it isn't really true. Cats have cones in their eyes. They do see colors, just not as many as we do.

You beat me to it, Monarchist! They have problems with shades of red, but cats can see color.

Actually cats don't see color like red and brown. But they can perceive color like purple, blue and green. So, this panel seems pretty accurate to describe what cats sees. The editor was wrong, but we can't blame him since Wikipedia didn't exist at the time.
