Yeah, Byrne is a big Kirby fan. I love how he call back to this sequence but did a lot to make it his own.
I'm not a fan of the guy as he is now, but when you see his work like this, you got to give him credit for kicking ass.

Is it wrong of me to like th Byrne version more than the original?
