I always thought it was a fun idea that a cute blonde girl made herself look like Ugly Betty when she became a superhero. I'm not sure that was actually intentional, and more the result of an awkward period in Byrne's art style, but still, it's a neat idea.

God, that Byrne rendering really is creepy. She looks like ET when it was all dressed up in doll clothing.

Yeah. I'm all for more realistic-looking women in comics, but it's a universally bad sign when your superhero inspires not terror but pity.
