Remembering the late great MacColl is a spectacular way to celebrate your sixth birthday, Bully.

I still remember laying in bed with a splitting headache listening to a British import show, when I heard Fairytale of New York. Suddenly my headache was gone and I had to find that album. I still choke up everytime I hear "The bells were ringing out for Christmas day"...

Thanks for the links and happy birthday.

First song I ever remember hearing of hers was "My Affair" on a college radio show. The minute I heard it, I was in love: she was an incredibly witty song-writer, and wasn't afraid to venture into new genres, or indeed, new languages. She had an angelic voice, but could hold her own trading insults with Shane MacGowan. Thank you.

(If I don't hear the lines, "You scumbag, you maggot..." etc, it just doesn't seem like Christmas.)

"There's a guy works down the chip shop swears he's Elvis" remains my favourite ever title/lyric to a song.

Hope you had a fun birthday, li'l Bull!

Kirsty is a goddess, and the world is poorer for losing her. Thanks for the tribute.

"it would take a gunshot/just to clear your head awhile", from "innocence," has to be one of the best kiss-off lines in a pop song *ever*. On a day when the news out of the white is so infuriating, it was a real pleasure to come to your site and find this lovely tribute to one of my favorite musicians. thanks.
