Yes, Batman really DOES seem to get a charge out of beating up animals. You should see what he does to wolves!
My guess is that he wanted to give Catwoman a nice leapard coat, but is too cheap to buy one. He probably took it home and made Alfred skin it too.
I like how they put Batman's thought balloon that says "Got to keep the shape of the terrain in mind..." over the face of the bound woman, as opposed to her body. Priorities.
