Politically-correct Cap.

Mighty Mike Sterling over at Progressive Ruin has brightened up all our days by posting some weirdly compelling sound effects panels from a 1975 issue of Captain America. Go check 'em out!

Here's one of the panels:
Captain America #181 panel

Not only do I have no idea what's goin' on in that panel, it's also a little, um...politically incorrect. So I fixed it:
Captain America #181 panel

See? Anyone can be PC...even when you're fighting a horde of snake-themed villains. Now you know...and knowing is half the battle!

I remember some West Coast Avengers issues from the 80's where the sound effect was "RAMBO!" So at least Englehart was getting more specific...

Anyone remember the "WANK!" Sound Effect?
In a POGO strip I think - but also in a Silver Age Marvel comic? The sound of Cap's shield hitting someone?
I won't rest until I've pinned it down now.

Rest, Paul.

I think there was a Peter David Hulk story that used "Sepulveda!" as a sound effect. (I can't remember whether "Pico" was used as well, but if it wasn't, it should have been.)

Verification word: "Bouttzzi"--another good sound effect.

Totally self-servingly, I point out this post from March 2006.

Thanks Bully. Now I have to clean the spit off of my computer screen. But it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO worth it.

Paul - I remember Barry "Windsor" Smith fooling Roy Thomas into using "wank" in CONAN, was that it?

NO I DON'T THINK SO MARK.
IF I RECALL THAT CONAN ONE WAS SOME KIND OF HIDDEN WORD CONCEALED IN A TUFT OF LONG GRASS.
NOT THAT I'M AN EXPERT ON THIS SUBJECT YOU UNDERSTAND.
