Today in Comics History, October 8, 1871: The Atom attempts to pin another one of his heinous crimes upon an innocent cow

This is an expanded and updated version of a post originally published October 8, 2014.

from "Suddenly...the Witness Vanished!" in Detective Comics #432 (DC, February 1973), script by Elliot S! Maggin, pencils and inks by Murphy Anderson, letters by Ben Oda

Here's a more truthful retelling of the Chicago Fire disaster. HEY, WAIT, YOU'RE STILL BLAMING A COW!

from "The Chicago Fire" in Real Fact Comics #8 (DC, May 1947); script by Jack Schiff, Mort Weisinger, and/or Bernie Breslauer; pencils by Curt Swan (?), inks by Steve Brodie (?)

I would like it known that I am only a little cow but I definitely know enough not to knock over lanterns. I am also not allowed to play with matches.

Henceforth, Atom was known alternately as the Mighty Mite, the Tiny Titan, and the Time-Traveling Abettor of Arson.

Ben Oda letters — as discussed on Twitter, and at least on these panels. I've just submitted the info to the GCD.
