Today in Comics History, October 25: Happy birthday, Pablo Picasso!

Born on this day in 1881: painter and artist Pablo Picasso, who did some blue stuff and also some square stuff. And he met Tarzan!

from Tarzan (1996 series) #11 (Dark Horse, May 1997), script by Lovern Kindzierski, pencils by Stan Manoukian, inks by Vince Roucher, colors by Perry McNamee, letters by Michael Taylor

Explain Cubism? What's there to explain about that, Pablo? After all...

...it's just about knocking things into little cubes!

Not many people know that Picasso drew the artwork for the light-hearted romp Guernica: The Comic, created by Alan Moore The Original Writer.

from "A Bigger Splash!" in Tomorrow Stories #7 (America's Best Comics, June 2000), script by Alan Moore, pencils and inks by Hilary Barta, colors by Alex Bleyaert, letters by Todd Klein

Such was his massive success in the comic book field that he was ultimately plucked to illustrated Marvel's mightiest mutant: Wolverine!

The classical bust is described as imaginary but the cartoon duck and fairies aren’t?!?
