Born on this day in 1848: eminent newspaperman and publisher
Melville Elijah Stone, founder of the
Chicago Daily News and the general manager of the Associated Press. Also, judging by his name, he was probably the editor of Fred Flintstone's favorite reading material, the
Bedrock News-Slab.
