Today in Comics History, February 20: Happy birthday, Mike Allred!

Born on this day: Mike Allred, scripter and artist, creator of Madman, Red Rocket 7, and The Atomics, co-creator of X-Statix and iZombie, and artist on some of the World's Most Fun Comics™ ever, including FF, Silver Surfer, Wednesday Comics, Bug!: The Adventures of Forager, X-Ray Robot, Superman: Space Age and much, much more!

Mike appeared as a Earth-616 character (much as Stan 'n' Jack had!) in issues of FF he drew, accompanying Ant-Man's team to the Microverse, accompanied by Marvel Marvel's VP Tom Brevoort and scripter Matt Fraction! (Mike's the one in the knit hat and Madman t-shirt!)

Mike's the ideal choice for a Fantastic Four comic book: like Kirby and his successors, he can handle "visually interesting ways to tell their story!"

The FF liked him so much they even invited him to their big series blow-out celebration on the MOON! (Pictured here with his wife and frequent colorist Laura Allred!)
