Today in Comics History, September 4: Happy birthday, Scott Shaw!!

Born on this day: comics artist and historian and animator Scott Shaw!

The "!" is something he didn't use for his fandom days, so I have added it for you here as a b'day present, Scott. I mean...Scott!

Scott has worked on many animation-based comics (The Simpsons, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Flintstones) as well as a LOT of animated series themselves (Ed Grimley, Camp Candy, Muppet Babies, Richie Rich, Garfield, Duck Dodgers, and more)!

Also, he co-created Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew!

A friend and collaborator with Mark Evanier, Sergio Aragonés, and Stan Sakai, Scott pops up sometimes in the Groo comic books!

Lots of creators and celebrities in this recent intense two-page spread by Sergio. Jeff Smith! #Svengoolie! Mark and Sergio himself! But can you spot...Scott Shaw? I mean, Scott Shaw!?

How about on the cover of Sergio's first regular solo book (which was brilliant, by the way — pick these comics up when you see 'em!)

Scott and Mark Evanier laud Stan Sakai on the 100th issue of Usagi Yojimbo!

But today, we salute you, Scott Shaw! Happy birthday, and keep putting the fun in comics!
