Woohoo! Old ugly Rogue punches out Dazzler! And therefore fulfills a dream of mine. (I REALLY can't stand Dazzler)

Rogue has always confused me. When I was first introduced to the character in Uncanny X-Men #173 -- my first exposure to the X-Men, too -- I presumed she was in her mid- to late 30s. It wasn't until a few years later that I learned she was supposed to be a teen-ager.

I think you're not alone, Kevin. When she debuted in Avengers Annual #10 (one of my favorite comics, ever--she was portrayed by Michael Golden as being young, but with sharp details and two bleached stripes in her hair (only later did she go to the one bleached 'skunkstripe'). I think later artists interpreted that as her being a much older woman. This Dazzler appearance is one of her first appearances following her debut, so it's clear her look hadn't been rightly defined yet.

When I was looking for more modern Rogue cover appearances, I've noticed that on the covers of her most recent miniseries, she's drawn to look exactly like Anna Paquin: double stripes running over her forehead and a very young face.

1982 Rogue looks like post-Slim-Fast Granny Goodness.

1991 Rogue looks like ... just about anybody from any comic what was published in 1991.

God, but Marvel comics were scary in the 90's.

Maybe Rogue absorbed someone's ageing power prior to the Dazzler issue, and it took a bit of time to wear off.

Doesn't explain the Reed Richards male pattern graying though.
