The Supergirl "rock" cover is actually very reminiscent of a Jim Mooney bluepencil sketch I have framed and hanging on my wall. Kara and Streaky in all their Mooney silver age goodness, smiling while riding on a comet. (A rock zooming through space, that is, not a horse.) When I bought it from Mr. Mooney, I remember him having several versions of the sketch for sale; maybe it's in part an homage to that, rather than a direct reference to the A-SS cover?

Gosh, I love that Superman cover. Supergirl could probably HAVE a cloud if she wasn't being so emo.
