Today in Comics History, August 20, 1959: Dr. Manhattan and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

from Watchmen #4 (DC, December 1986); script by Alan Moore; pencils, inks and letters by Dave Gibbons; colors by John Higgins

Alan Moore, bearded devil that he is, does not provide us with the exact date and time in August 1959 that Jon Osterman goes from being a scientist to a big blue guy with a penis, which is why DC felt the need to publish 72 issues of Before Watchmen to let us know it was Thursday, August 20 at 1:15 PM. Poor guy missed Playhouse 90 that evening on CBS!

And now, a little Before Watchmen montage remembering that moment. Maestro J. Michael Straczynski, if you please?:

Ouch! That's gonna leave a mark. You can use my Bactine, Dr. Osterman.

And enjoy your weekend, compliments of Robert Ludlum!
