National Comics subscription ad printed in Strange Adventures #185 (February 1966)
Ad: pencils by Curt Swan, inks by George Klein, letters by Ira Schnapp
Comic book cover: Action Comics #33 (February 1966), pencils by Curt Swan, inks by Sheldon Moldoff
I was thinking the same thing about Zatanna.
ReplyDeleteAlso Mxyzptlk seems to be confused. He says 12 issues for the price of 10, but the subscription form says 10 issues for $1.00 (regular price $1.20).
That or my backwards reading isn't very good.
ReplyDeleteWhere'd you get those credits? The GCD has Shelly Moldoff inking Curt Swan on the cover reproduced. Mxyzptlk looks like the work of Kurt Schaffenberger. And I don't think that Superman head is Swan/Klein unless George Klein was having a backwards day himself.
I correct out of love, of course. 8^)
Got the data here, Blam. It could be hooey for all I know...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't precise enough--I should have also identified the cover art as well. Thanks for your eagle. Award yourself the coveted Ezirp-Llub!
ReplyDeleteSince the cover repro is so small, I wouldn't have been confusered (TM Carl Pietrantonio) had the credits you gave seemed to match the main art in the ad but to my eyes it doesn't.
There are at least three other records for this ad in the GCD and those other three only credit Swan (and Schnapp, but not Klein). I still think that even Swan is wrong, although it's possible that he penciled both, with Mxy inked by Schaffenberger and the Supes head inked or retouched by someone who rendered Swan's pencils unrecognizable.
I'll take this one to the group too.
