Splash page from "Here Comes Alfred!" from Batman v.1 #16 (April-May 1943), script by Don Cameron, pencils by Bob Kane, inks by Jerry Robinson, backgrounds and letters by George Roussos.
The first appearance of Alfred*, butler to Batman and Robin (and Bruce Wayne and Dick Greyson).
*Despite the title, for the purposes of this feature "Alfred Pennyworth" refers to one or more of all of the following and possible others not listed: Alfred Pennyworth of Earth-1, Alfred Beagle of Earth-2, Alan Napier Alfred, Michael Gough Alfred, Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. Alfred, Michael Caine Alfred, Alfred of Elseworlds including but not limited to Don Alfredo, Alfred the Great, The Alf-Bot 3000, Lego Batman Alfred, and maybe even Alfred the Cat from Batman #666. So please: no "But that's Alfred Beagle!" comments. He's still Alfred and he's still awesome.
I love it, Master Bruce. And I much preferred the original fat Alfred. Aplomb! This is a great choice. Your best yet! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteWonderful. I love Alfred...he's my favorite Bat-character.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic. This is gonna be a good year with Alfred!
ReplyDeleteGreat choice!
ReplyDeleteIf Bully says he's Alfred, then he's Alfred, by gum!
