It's kind of amazing that the Avengers teased us, the comics-reading public, twice with the prospect of ROM in the Avengers. Someone should alert Chris Sims to this travesty of modern advertising ethics.
Laura, I did use that same West Coast Avengers cover in the floating heads list, so yeah, that is kinda cheating! (But I loved the idea that the Avengers do this "pick members" tease on their covers so often that I couldn't resist it.)
Bret, that "blank" space is of the Invisible Girl! (It's one of the covers it's harder to find a really sharp scan online of...The GCD's is cut off at the top.)
Interesting how that Spidey cover balances between blatant and subtle-- on the one hand, it's "SOMEONE WILL DIE!!!!," but it also hides a lot of what actually happens in the book; if the cover were done today, I'm sure we'd see Spiderman standing over the dead body of (DELETED TO PRESERVE SURPRISE FOR NEWBIES (:), with the shadow of the World War Hulk cast over both of them or something.

ReplyDeleteThe last two kinda seem like cheating! Don't they belong with the floating head set you just did?
ReplyDeleteFloating heads have unanswered questions too, y'know!
ReplyDeleteI vote ROM and Hulk for the avengers. If that doesn't lead to awesome fight scenes, what will?
ReplyDelete(all this assumes the blank space with the name unreadable isn't squirrel girl. If so, all bets are off.)

Wait ... "Starfinger?"

ReplyDeletemaxo, Starfinger was awesome!
ReplyDeleteIf you switch Spider-woman and Dazzler you get a current Avengers bingo!
Well, they gave something away when they said "He". Way to spoil it, folks.
ReplyDeleteI nominate Bully for Avengers membership.
