Doesn't the X-Men cartoon title sequence have a "running into each other" sequence too? I think it stops just before they hit, which is a shame as I always want to see what happens next.
Do they go splat? Do they bounce? I suppose it depends who runs into who. This being the internet, I expect there's a page about it somewhere, evaluating each pairing's likely reaction.
This is my favorite of the common forms of super-hero comics covers. When I was a kid, I'd stare at the covers and determine who would win each match-up.
The result of the Superfriends/Legion of Doom running into each other explosion at the end of the video there? Alex Ross. Seriously, that's how he was conceived.
One cover that you could consider the next step in the "evil counterparts" could be the cover to Earth 2 by where they have everbody standing on top of mirror images of their antimatter selves.
And I love how the Sealab cover has everybody in tied down action poses.
That Sealab cover wins!

ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I've always loved these sorts of covers. Probably some unexplained psycological quirk.
ReplyDeleteThey all look like they are playing a jolly game of Red Rover.

ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love us a bit of evil opposite cover action?
ReplyDeleteI like it, but it always seems like an homage now. I wonder when the next great step in evil opposite covers will take place?
Kudos on using a line from Siouxsie and the Banshees in the title. Especially since said song is from the Batman Returns soundtrack.

Next time you do one of these, can you include the cover of Hall & Oates' album H20?
