Like whipping us with a sharp
snap across the face with a glove, albeit a glove transmitted over the internet, which come to think of it, would probably be some sort of theoretical glove, or at the very least an
e-glove,
Brandon over at Random Panels issues the challenge to the blogosphere assembled to "fill in the blanks" of a Thor/Cap panel.
Have at ye, then, sir!:
Truth in advertising notice: I'm not sure what issue this is from or indeed if Colletta was even involved. But who needs truthiness in going for the yucks? Not me, that's fer sure.
I've got a villain written up for a DC Heroes rpg called the Eraser. His secret identity will now be changed to mild mannered art-hack, Vince Coletta. Thanks for the inspiration, sir.
ReplyDeleteGotta say, that looks a lot more like Chic Stone to me...
ReplyDeleteAye, aye, Colletta's inking was made by a lot of tiny lines
ReplyDelete"Great work, Jan!" Tee hee hee. That's about all she was good for back in the day anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm embarassed to admit that up until about a year ago, I had never known about Colletta pulling this trick. I would even get in arguments with people who'd get mad when I said I liked his inking (they could at least have said _why_ before getting all huffy).
ReplyDeleteThough I'm still quite fond of the texture of his style on the parts that he actually bothered to do.
And no, that panel doesn't seem to have any of the distinctive "Colletta scratches" anywhere. Funny, though.
I don't know enough about where the panel came from specifically, though I'll ask Brandon. I just wanted to make a "there's no background, Colletta musta erased it" joke!
ReplyDeleteX-Men #9, sir.
ReplyDeleteDouglas is right then; it's Chic Stone.
ReplyDeleteChick Stone...
ReplyDeleteAwful illustrator...
WONDERFUL INKER.
i DON'T THINK ANYONE INKED kIRBY AS WELL AS HE DID.
This Paul Saether guy really knows comics.
ReplyDeleteWho is he?
me!
ReplyDeleteI'll take Vince Colletta's inking any day over Chic Stone. It is like comparing and artist with a tracer.
ReplyDeleteI heard that Vince Colletta also planned the Kennedy assassination and the World Trade Center attacks. They apparantly weren't as horrific as erasing a Jack Kirby background so no one has ever heard about them.
