365 Days of Defiance, Day 315: A Man Called Smith

As we saw back in August, the extremely short-lived comic Captain Fearless series was great fodder for scenes of defiance against evil and tyranny. It had ten, count 'em, ten different comic stories of action, adventure, and (um) fearlessness, and here's another one, starring the sure-to-be-one-of-the-biggest-hit-characters of the Golden Age, Citizen Smith! (You may have visited Planet Hollywood and saw on display the smith from Citizen Smith.) Please note the publication date: it was on the newsstands more than six months before Pearl Harbor!

365 Days of Defiance, Day 314: Extraordinary crimes against the people and the state must be avenged by agents extraordinary

I'm not gonna turn this into another multi-day feature like I've recently done with Legion of Super-Heroes #294, and I generally try not to post quite so many panels from a single comic book, but...there's too many great moments of sheer defiance backed with British pluck and determination in Captain Britain and MI13 to let them pass by. When the Skrulls (using the bleakest forms of dark sorcery) threaten to overrun the British Isles during the (not-so-) Secret Invasion, our cast of chars shows the sort of strong stuff that The Dam Busters and Doctor Who and Dad's Army are made of:

Panels from Captain Britain and MI13 #3 (September 2008), script by Paul Cornell, pencils by Leonard Kirk, inks by Jesse Delperdang and Scott Hanna, colors by Brian Reber, letters by Joe Caramagna

Whether it's Spitfire teamed with the good Skrull John Lennon...

..The Black Knight, and the heir to Excalibur Dr. Faiza Hussain...

Or the entire force of the land of Fairy, including Peaseblossom and Mustardseed...

And if you're valiant and hono(u)rable enough in your beliefs and your battles, King Arthur Captain Britain himself will come back from the dead to fight on your side.

Everybody sing along!

365 Days of Defiance, Day 311: It's time to make a change / This is our chance / Don't be afraid to do what's right / This is it! Vote today!

Hey you! It's Election Day! So go out there and vote!

What's that? "Aw, my vote won't count", ya say? Shame on you! This comic book is as true today, maybe even more true, than it was in 1952!

from Your Vote Is Vital! public service one-shot (Harvey, 1952), pencils and inks by Warren Kremer; Al Avison

Look, let's put it this way. Neither the actual President, the Vice President, or the White House tweeted generally about voting today. That's what we're up against. Remember that!
