I remember this ad bugging me at the time. (Still does.) The Dark Knight was a totally different beast than Man of Steel; "Year One" would've been the appropriate comparison, except that it came out after Man of Steel and the same month as the new Wonder Woman debuted.

All that notwithstanding, Pérez's take hooked me. I haven't read his run in quite some time but I was surprised to find that the general critical/fan tide appears to have turned against it during my forced hiatus from the comics sphere in the aughts.

Forgot to add: I was kind-of ticked that the bracelets were no longer blue. On the other hand, Diana could finally outright fly.

I agree with your take, Blam...it was the first time i was really interested in Wonder Woman, and Perez did a solid job of mixing mythological and modern characters, as well as a decent supporting cast. It went off the rails sometime after #50, but it's a very good run.
