I have a great photo of me and my pal Simon stood in front of the replica No.10 door, at the Granada Studios Tour in Manchester. I'm there, lit by flashbulbs, chest puffed out in smug simulation of a dictator ushered into power on his own democratic disingenuity, while my pal is stood next to me, lughing his arse off. The photo would be a fairly ordinary Silly Tourist pic were it not for the actor playing the policeman, who, with great comic aplomb, looks straight at the camera with an shrug-shouldered expression that says "'oo let 'IM in?!"

More Prime Ministers should be greeted with such naked disbelief. Every single day.
